Lathyrus (Sweet Pea)
Sweet peas can be both pre-cultivated and direct-sown.
When pre-cultivating, the seeds can advantageously be soaked for about 24 hours before sowing for faster germination.
Sowing time: About five weeks before transplanting. Harden off the plants for a period before and plant out when the risk of frost is over.
Direct sowing takes place when the soil has settled and the risk of frost is over. The soil temperature should exceed 10 degrees Celsius. Plant spacing: About 10-15 cm for both pre-cultivation and direct sowing. To get more side shoots and flowers, the plant can be topped when it reaches a height of about 10 cm.
Sweet peas thrive in a sunny and sheltered location. They need support to climb on to stay upright and grow strong
