Round Black Winter - BIO

Round Black Winter - BIO

Raphanus sativus

Traditional, round radish with black skin. Harvest it when it is no larger than a tennis ball, as the internal quality deteriorates after that. Robust variety that stores well. Radishes are grown in a similar way to smaller radishes; a consistent supply of water is important. The radish will grow larger and have a stronger flavor.

Late-harvested radishes can be cold-stored for a period. Radishes are a good crop to grow in late summer and autumn, as they are not very sensitive to low temperatures and can tolerate a few degrees above freezing. If sown too early in the spring with plenty of light and long days, there is a risk of it bolting. Common in Japanese and other Asian cuisine.
